Matriarch
Title: Matriarch
Logline:
Matriarch is the story of life in an alternate history version of Britain, which is a matriarchal monarchy ruled over by the Queen and stands as a beacon of hope for oppressed women all around the world. Though she may have lost her empire, Britain still accepts refugees from abroad, especially from neighbouring France, which is a patriarchal democracy. The French seek to overthrow the monarchy by arming the Brotherhood, a revolutionary group that has been deemed a terrorist organisation for advocating republicanism, the rule of man, male supremacy and the subjugation of women. Among other detractors of the Crown are a group of women who fight for freedom, democracy, men's rights and protest, amongst other things, the state security body - Minerva, which operates a sophisticated surveillance system in service of the monarch. The story follows Mary X, the newly-crowned 30 year old Queen, as she struggles with international pressures on her reign, led by the misogynistic French president, insurrection by the Brotherhood and displeasure from her Marchionesses at the growing numbers of immigrants, as well as the stories of other women and men living in this version of Britain.
